Online Course: State of the Art vs. State of the Practice for In Situ Remedial Design 

Registration: Registration must take place during business hours (8 am to 6 pm Mon. - Fri.). Within 24 hours of registration, the LSPA will provide your registration information via email.  
Availability: Once you have your login information, the course may be accessed at any time for 30 days through a web browser. At the end of 30 days, your access is terminated. No extensions will be offered. 
Technology: The course may be accessed using a computer, tablet or mobile device. All you need is a web browser and access to the Internet. Preferred browsers include: Google Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox. Please note: Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) is not a supported browser.

This course has been approved by the LSP Board of Registration for 4.0 hours of Technical/Non-DEP continuing education credits (Course #1699). 

Course Description:
The primary objective of this four hour course is to provide insight for LSPs into the existence and differences in the state of the art (SOA) and state of the practice (SOP) in remedial design. The differences significantly impact the certainty of success and costs for design and implementation of remediation systems. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, remedial technologies gained traction in the United States. There has been a consistent trend in new technology development from that time. Shortly after the introduction of a new technology, market pressures cause a divergence in the base science and engineering behind the technologies (SOA) and the implementation of the technologies (SOP). The consequence of this divergence is a decline in certainty and potential increase in overall lifecycle costs. In this course, we will discuss the SOA vs SOP in the remedial design for several remedial technologies, including:

• Soil vapor extraction;
• In situ chemical oxidation / reduction;
• Enhanced bioremediation; and
• Thermal enhancements.

Several case studies will be presented for each technology.

Registration Process:
Once you complete your registration form for the course, you will receive two emails from the LSPA:

  1. Your registration confirmation which also acts as a paid receipt.
  2. An email containing your log-in information and link to directly access the online course. Once this email is sent, you will have 30 days to complete the course. Access to the course and the quiz will automatically expire in 30 days. There will be no extensions or exceptions.
