Presentation Description:

This program will be presented by a panel from the Massachusetts Beneficial Soil Reuse Coalition (MBSRC) – a group of developers, consultants, and engineers (including several LSPs) formed earlier this year. The objective of the Coalition is to work with MassDEP to identify short- and long-term solutions to the soil management crisis facing the Commonwealth.

Most practitioners have experienced firsthand the dwindling shortage of options for COMM-97 soils. The current remaining capacity is less than the predicted volumes to be generated in the next 12 to 18 months. MBSRC representatives have had several meetings with MassDEP to present proposed action plans and discuss mechanisms to develop additional soil disposal and reuse capacity.

It is important for LSPs to be up to date on soil management on-the-ground capacity and policy efforts within the Commonwealth. The program panel will:

  • Introduce the Coalition, its objectives, and efforts to date;
  • Provide an overview of current soil disposal and reuse challenges and opportunities;
  • Summarize Coalition recommendations to MassDEP and recent policy discussions together;
  • Identify upcoming efforts and next steps; and
  • Provide a Question & Answer session where LSPs can offer additional ideas and suggestions as well as ask questions.
