Online Course: PFAS in Massachusetts: Development of Drinking Water Guideline and Implementation of MCP Requirements
Registration: Registration must take place during business hours (8 am to 6 pm Mon. - Fri.). Within 24 hours of registration, the LSPA will provide your registration information via email. Availability: Once you have your login information, the course may be accessed at any time for 30 days through a web browser. At the end of 30 days, your access is terminated. Course Description: The course will provide LSPs with a detailed explanation of the development of MassDEP’s drinking water guideline for Per and Polyfluorinated Alkyl Substances (PFAS) and updates to the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) with regard to the regulation of PFAS at 21E disposal sites. The course will be presented in two parts--Part 1: Basis of MassDEP PFAS Drinking Water Values, presented by Dr. C. Mark Smith, Director, ORS; and Part 2: MCP PFAS Provisions, presented by Paul W. Locke, Assistant Commissioner, BWSC. Part 1 will identify what PFAS are, describe past uses and sources of release to the environment, explain toxicity and health effects, and present ORS’s approach to developing MassDEP’s PFAS drinking water guideline. Part 2 will detail the derivation of the MCP Method 1 soil and groundwater PFAS standards, review notification criteria and exemptions, discuss PFAS Imminent Hazards and Immediate Response Actions undertaken to address PFAS releases, and present considerations for sampling and analysis. References to available guidance documents will be provided.
Registration Process: Once you complete your registration form for the course, you will receive two emails from the LSPA:
- Your registration confirmation which also acts as a paid receipt.
- An email containing your log-in information and link to directly access the online course. Once this email is sent, you will have 30 days to complete the course. Access to the course and the quiz will automatically expire in 30 days. There will be no extensions or exceptions.
- To receive your CEU, you must successfully complete the quiz and log out of the Learning Management System.
