Presentation:

MassDEP and the LSPA Climate Change Subcommittee have had discussions on a variety of topics pertaining to climate change requirements as proposed in the 2019 Amendments to the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) related to considering potential climate change impacts at disposal sites.  In general, the discussions have identified four topical categories:

  1. Site Vulnerability Assessment
  2. Resilience and Adaptation
  3. Modelling and Forecasting
  4. Administration and Applicability

This presentation will provide a status update on key outstanding questions and issues on the topic of Site Vulnerability Assessment.  These include but are not limited to:

  • What are the terms to be used in the implementation of climate change evaluations under the MCP, and how are they defined?  Key terms are vulnerability assessment, resilience, and adaptation.
  • When might a site vulnerability assessment be conducted?
  • How might site vulnerability be assessed relative to the MCP and the Conceptual Site Model?
  • What might be the timeframe for “reasonably foreseeable future” for an MCP site vulnerability assessment?
  • What public agencies and other organizations are involved with this work?
  • What key reference materials currently exist?

There will be time set aside at the end of the webinar for Q & A.
